I am Crystal Dolphin. Some of you may know me as Kim. Crystal Dolphin is my spiritual name.
I am Pagan and proud! No, Pagan does not stand for “people against good and normality” as one of my dog-walking friends jokes with me. (I think that was from the movie “Dragnet”?) The literal meaning of Pagan is “country dweller”, and I am a country gal at heart. Pagan encompasses many spiritual paths. More specifically, I am eclectic/Celtic Wiccan. While some Wiccans are not comfortable with the label of “Witch”, or “Witchcraft”, I tend to use the titles of Wiccan and Witch interchangeably.
I introduce myself as such here, because my spirituality is an integral part of what makes me who I am…much of what I feel inspired to write stems from my spiritual studies, as well as the fact that I look at everyday life from a Pagan perspective.
I was born and raised in New England on a small family farm. Though my parents do not claim to be Pagan, I was brought up in a lifestyle that greatly resembled that of “Earth-based spirituality” – learning about plants and animals, how to care for the Earth, appreciating and respecting Nature. Instead of “church” on weekends, our family was usually involved with some sort of community service. I didn’t start following a Pagan spiritual path formally until after graduating from high school, and progressed into Witchcraft and Wicca over the next several years.
As far as my mundane world goes, I am 30-something, single, and have no children (aside from the four-legged kind). I work in the administrative/accounting department for a printing company, and am fortunate in that I enjoy my job and my coworkers (most days that is <grin>).
My weekends are dedicated to various hobbies and interests, getting outdoors and enjoying Nature, play-time with the four-legged (Mollie, my beloved black lab), and spending some quality time with friends and family. I love the water – most especially, the ocean, to which I am particularly drawn. I am an avid reader. I am on a continuous quest to quench my thirst for knowledge. One of my all-time favorite quotes: “Of all the things I’ve learned, I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn!“
Though I love many genres of music (and even play a little percussion myself) a favorite Saturday evening pastime is unwinding in an Irish pub, sipping a pint of guiness, and singing and dancing along to some Irish/Celtic music and sea songs. Below is a picture of me doing just that! I am the long-haired gal on the left. On the right, my “Spirit Sistah”, dear friend, and High Priestess, Ocean. This picture was taken at O’Neill’s pub in the “Witch City” itself, Salem, Massachusetts. If you ever get the chance to visit O’Neill’s, Ocean and I highly recommend their New England Clam Chowdah!
(Feel free to visit Ocean at Deaf Pagan Crossroads, listed under Pagan Blogs. I’m sure you will enjoy her writings as much as I have.)
This blog site was created with encouragement from above mentioned “Sistah”. Aside from being my spiritual mentor, she also assists me in my studies of Deaf Culture and ASL (American Sign Language), so you may see posts related to these studies and experiences as well.
Ocean always complains about the above picture – it’s not the best of us due to the fact that we were rather windblown – but nevertheless, it is one of my favorites. We two Witches out on the town were having a great time, despite the unfavorable weather, and despite the flat tire I got on the way there. She will never let me live that down! 😉
Below is a picture of me at a friend’s recording studio. I was posing with a musician friend, sporting my rosewood pentagram tambourine. (sorry dude, I cut ya out of it for this page, reserving pictures of my musical friends for a future post.)
Now you know a little about me. I’m sure you will learn more as I continue on my journey in the blogosphere. Please feel free to stop by for a spell, and comment on any of my posts.
